“The simple boom brake” This boom device uses different degrees of friction to slow down the boom swing when jibing. Method reduces the slamming of the boom from side to side. This is done by allowing the boom to shift while being restricted by the amount of friction rigged into the TackRite device.
Attach the TackRite device to the boom with ½” line or add / utilize a bail eye that may exist. With an in-mast sail the line method will need attached after the sail has been pulled out.
Aligning with the mid-span cleats rig ½” or larger line from one side to the other and determine the desired amount of drag within the TackRite. The image below shows three degrees of drag friction.
A block can be added to one of the cleats allowing one end of the line to lead back to a cockpit location for additional control.
